Most circumstances of acute diarrhea disappear with no remedy. On the other hand, critical diarrhea (better than 10 bowel movements on a daily basis or diarrhea wherever fluid losses are drastically better than oral ingestion) could cause dehydration, that may be lifetime-threatening if untreated.
